16-18 Category • 2026Originally i had tried to create this piece in black charcoal, but something about it was preventing a liveliness in the portrait, thus i turned to the saturated and fun. I believe nature can be captured in any light and i thought the glow emmiting from the fish tank placed itself in a pretty way. Im not the worlds biggest fan of drawing landscapes or plants, but even in the most indoor places you can find whole ecosystems, such as the humble fish tank(and the humble onlooker). The beauty of Nature will always have an undercurrent of concern for me so i wanted to include a little bit of a message. My piece is a subtle depiction of an impact on nature. Everyday, casually, and from the comfort of our manmade ecosytems, we watch the negative impact on our enviorment. Like watching fish in a tank, we watch what is happening to our world. we will not be able to forever observe the beauty nature provides us so when is the change? I hope to personally find more ways to create sustainably aswell as more opportunities to spread awareness for the fishies and all. Ps. I made my own stamps to create the fish bones and the rest is all organically shaded with blue chalk pastel.
