My artwork is built around the theme “This is Nature”. I chose a raven in flight because  it shows how much of a wingspan, they have which I like to symbolise with the quote “you will never know how far you can fly until you spread your wings “ by author Napoleon Bonapartein. In my sketch you can see how confident the bird is with itself which shows how comfortable the bird is at such  height in the sky ,which I hoped to execute a similar effect in my sculpture as well Before I started my sketch or sculpture, I familiarised myself with the shapes, lines and proportion of the raven I was working from. Once I completed my 3D sketch of the raven on a A2 page , I began my 3d cardboard sculpture, I featured a variety of cards and cardboards throughout the process, I also studied my strong pencil drawing before developing my raven sculpture. I studied the strength of the bird in different parts of the bird's body mainly in the wings and tail directing its movement throughout its course in flight. I found it interesting working with cardboard due to having a lot of control and influence I have on the structure by just bending and slitting the material at different angles and sides, by using masking tape to hold all the cardboard and card in my desired position gave me the ability to change or swap any imperfections easily ,without harming or damaging my piece. The flexible card made my pencil sketch into a 3d sculpture to give the illusion of the bird jumping out of the card. I enjoy creating art from nature because of its unique shapes and organic lines .Ravens are  symbols of wisdom and transformation which links into the importance of the life cycle of wildlife ,which is why I'm trying to communicate to the viewer of my art that life can be stretched far and wide like a set of birds wings .
