8-11 Category • 2026These are our Mandalas. Our idea was to show how we should reduce plastic in our oceans. We added pieces of plastic to our mandalas and then removed them to show that it looks so much more beautiful without the plastic. We used natural materials such as pebbles, rose petals, shells, holly leaves and things made from wood like lollipop sticks, clothes pegs and buttons. We made the mandalas in groups by choosing objects and working collaboratively to decide where to put things. We used our imaginations to make the mandalas and also used our mathematical skills by using symmetry. We did not use any glue or paste to stick on the materials. We took the mandalas apart at the end so we could reuse the materials. We also made a video of ourselves taking apart, then we reversed it to make it look like the Mandala being made. We used music that we made to go with the video.
