The artwork that i created depicts flamingo lilies in bloom. I photographed these lilies in the glass house in the national botanical gardens. The complimentary colours red and green of the flamingo lily initially caught my eye and i was also intrigued by the form and shape of the lily so i decided on doing a Painting of them. I first mapped out how i wanted the painting to look, i then applied acrylic paint in layers and got a feel for the structure of the flower. Then i kept at it and focused on the contrast of colours and mixing to create the perfect tints and shades of each colour. Nearing the end i touched up the painting with oil pastels and posca pens to define the shapes. This was an extremely enjoyable project and i loved learning about flamingo lilies and nature
