The Smoke of the Forest

When I first came to Ireland, I saw so many mushrooms everywhere - in forests, on grass, and even near paths after the rain. One day, I accidentally stepped on one and it let out a puff of smoke. I later learned it was a puffball mushroom, which spreads its spores that way. I had never seen anything like it in my country, and it stuck in my memory as something magical about Irish nature. I made this artwork using watercolour and pencil, mixing the soft colours of the forest with careful lines to show the mushroom’s details. Mushrooms are small, but they play a big part in nature - they help recycle life in the forest. This piece reminds me how beautiful and alive the world beneath our feet can be.
